Wilderness permits are required year-round for all overnight stays in wilderness areas. During the summer months, many trails have quota restrictions on them. For Information regarding a specific trail call the ranger station listed above the trail name below

Inyo National Forest Trails with Daily Quotas

The quota period for Mt. Whitney trail and No. Fork Lone Pine Creek is May 15th - November 1st. The quota period for all other quota trails begins the last Friday in June - September 15th. The max group size for a wilderness permit is 15 unless the quota is less than 15 for that trail. Any time you enter the Mt Whitney special management zone you are subject to it's quota season regardless of your entry trail.
