Birch Creek Trail

From Hwy. 395 in Big Pine turn west on Crocker Street. Drive approximately 2 ½ miles to McMurry Meadow Rd, turn left on to the dirt road, and left again ata fork in the road. Drive about 6 miles to a road and turn right. The turn-off is signaled by the name "Naylor" spray painted on a granite boulder. Drive another mile, through a cattle gate (please close gate), you have reached the trailhead.

There is not much of a trail, follow the brush-choked creek for a short time at a junction at ½ mile, stay left. Abandon the creek, veering right to climb and stay up on a bench. Reach Birch Lake after 5 ½ miles and wver 4000 ft elevation gain. A topo map is a must, 7 ½ minute is best if you can find one. Contact the White Mountain Ranger Station for more information (760) 873-2500.
