Inyo National Forest
Hilton Lakes From Hwy. 395 north of Bishop turn at Tom's Place at the sign for Rock Creek and continue up the canyon. Trailhead parking is located below the Rock Creek pack station just off the road. This is another of the less crowded hikes in Rock Creek Canyon, although popular with packers. The trail will take hikers through a forest of Whitebark and Lodgepole Pines on a undulating trail. Pass the trail coming in from the Rock Creek pack station at 1 ½ miles. A short stint uphill will lead to a fork in the trail, keep right. Another ascent at 3 miles will lead to level walking through an area littered with avalanched trees. The trail descends swiftly about ½ mile later. Reach another fork in the trail at 4 miles. The right fork leads to Davis Lake and the 2nd of the Hilton Lakes a short distance later. The left fork climbs up a short set of switchbacks, leveling before reaching the third Hilton Lake at 4 ½ miles. This lake is a beauty, surrounded by granite peaks. Continue on with the trail to explore the upper Hilton Lakes, a short distance from one another. Anglers will find Brook and Rainbow trout in these upper lakes.
