Robinson Lake Trail
From Hwy. 395 in Independence, turn west on Market street. Drive 15 miles to the trailhead parking. The Robinson Lake trail is strenuous and infrequently maintained.
It's best to get an early start on this hike, although the distance to the lake is relatively short, the noon day sun can be brutal. Begin by walking through the campground, keeping an eye out for the trailhead sign between sites 6 and 7.
Cross the creek and begin climbing on very steep hillside. Watch for evidence of an avalanche at ½ mile. Join up with the creek before the punishing ascent begins again. Cross a rocky slope at 1 mile, reaching the lake shore at 1 ½ miles. This is a small, beautiful lake, with excellent views of the valley below.
This is great as a day hike, but may not be suitable for younger hikers. The trail is easy to lose in places, and footing can be tricky.
