Sabrina Lake Trail

From Hwy. 395 in Bishop, turn west on Line St. ( Hwy. 168 ) and continue approx. 18 miles to Lake Sabrina. Day use parking is at roads end. Overnight parking is located at turnout near North Lake turnoff.

The Sabrina Basin trail leads into a basin of 13,000 ft. granite peaks surrounding a number of alpine lakes. This is another very popular trail, especially on weekends. Footing on this trail can be tricky for younger hikers.

The trail parallels Sabrina Lake for about a mile, passing a junction for George Lake at 1.3 miles. Continue straight, crossing a creek at 1 ½ miles. This can be a tricky crossing in the spring. Begin climbing a series of steep switchbacks, reaching a section of stair-stepped granite at around 2 ½ miles, this is the section you want to really watch your footing. Half a mile further will bring you to the shore of Blue Lake. This is certainly a picture postcard setting, however. those seeking solitude will want to continue on.

The right fork beyond Blue Lake will lead through a forest of Lodgepole Pine. Hikers following this trail have access to Dingleberry, Hungry Packer, and Midnight Lakes. The backdrop of these lakes is magnificent with the jagged peaks of the Sierra Crest being dominated by Mt. Darwin and Mt. Haeckel. A path marked with cairns beyond Blue Lake (left fork) will lead to Donkey and Baboon Lakes.
