Tamarack Lakes Trail

From Hwy 395 north of Bishop, turn at Tom's Place at the sign for Rock Creek and continue up Rock Creek Canyon to Rock Creek Lake, parking is located near the east side of the lake, or at Pine Grove Campground. This is a good family hike for those who would like to avoid the more crowded trails in the Rock Creek Canyon.

The trail is steep initially, but levels out around the intermediate lakes before starting the final climb to Tamarack and Buck Lake. Reach a junction at 1 mile, (keep right for Kenneth and Dorothy Lakes) and another junction at just under 2 miles. The trail to the right leads to Francis Lake.

Continue straight for Dorothy and Tamarack Lakes, passing what is left of Kenneth Lake on your left. Several switchbacks will lead to a large meadow to reach Dorothy Lake at 3 miles. Continue up the trail to reach Buck and Tamarack lakes 1 ¾ miles later.

Fishing enthusiasts will find Golden trout in Tamarack Lake, while the lower Dorothy Lake holds Brookies and Lahonton Cutthroat.
