Tyee, George Lakes Trail From Hwy 395 in Bishop, turn west on Line St. (Hwy 168 west) and turn left on the South Lake road. The trailhead is 4.4 miles up the South Lake road and begins at the footbridge that crosses Bishop Creek. This is one of the least crowded hikes in Bishop Creek. It could have something to do with the fact that you gain over 1,000 ft. elevation in the first two miles! Endure the well graded switchbacks to reach the first of the Tyee Lakes at just over 2 miles. Each of the other three lakes are just around ½ mile apart. Push on towards the last of the four Tyee Lakes for your reward; serene solitude. Those looking for a longer, one-way hike can continue on up past the 4th lake over Table Mountain before dropping down to George Lake and Lake Sabrina. The trail becomes a bit indistinct over Table Mountain. Tyee Lakes, named for a famed brand of salmon eggs, boasts good fishing. Rainbow and Brown Trout can be found in these lakes.
